Running an Online Business with the iPad
Hey there.
With the anticipation of Apple releasing its new tablet, the iPad, a few questions are immediately raised from the entrepreneur in me.
Would it be possible to run my ENTIRE business… EXCLUSIVELY from my iPad?
My immediate answer is absolutely yes! Not only will the iPad have all of the necessary ‘executive’ software, the lack of a full blown operating system will have me structuring business activities much more ‘top down’.
So, rather than opening up Photoshop and spending an hour working on a banner ad, it would be easier for me to shoot off a 2-minute e-mail to a designer to get the same done in less time with higher quality results.
Obviously, it’s better to have functionality you rarely use and not need it… rather than not having it at all. However, the incredible portability and ease-of-use the iPad is offering seems like the ultimate “online entrepreneur” workstation for a few reasons:
- Working with your project manager (who in turn works with your employees) is a cinch. Simply use e-mail/Safari/Basecamp.
- Creating presentations with iWork
- Google Analytics iPad App
- Really, any other functionality if you use VPN/remote control software for the occasional keyword research tool / SpeedPPC if you don’t outsource.
The iPad seems to be a super lightweight, “thin-client” platform that appeals to the mobile user… especially, the mobile entrepreneur. I’d love to see some custom applications oriented for online business. Overall, it will function as my main workstation, forcing me to focus more on macromanagement, rather than micromanagement.

John, I agree and have been thinking the same thing – there is so much we do now with online applications and cloud computing you could do all your work from the ipad at a cafe.
I think for organizing my massive iphone snap shots it would be worth the money !
